As I See It ... 01/30/2012
As a freelance writer, with knowledge and application of good writing skills, you can earn a good living. The internet gave writers lots of new markets and a global readership. Endless opportunities became available to those who are willing to seek them out. Write Like Your Income Depends Upon It Freelancers of any type experience a certain independence of intent and purpose. They craft articles, reports, ebooks, novels, web content, columns, product reviews and many other forms of expression with words. Freelance writers earn their living in the netherworld of ghostwriting or the publicly recognizable with bylines. If It Looks Too Good To Be True ... Of course, finding writing assignments means you need to know the words to use in a search online. It is imperative that any search brings legitimate results and that the searcher can recognize a scam when one pops up. The non-working, desperate writer tends to jump at "opportunities" when they sound promising, spending money they don't have - on a program by some expert guaranteeing that it will bring health, wealth and more of the same. How Much a Picture is Really Worth Unless you have a debilitating disease that causes harm to your face, there is really no reason to use an avatar. When you use something other than a real picture - or mugshot - of you, potential clients will gravitate away. What you have presented is not quite what they were expecting. So, what's your picture worth? In this time and place, it could be thousands of dollars or you could end up with nothing. Your picture could truly be worth a thousand words, which when translated could be $25 dollars or $250 dollars. Remember, there is no income in the hand of the avatar. Be a Straight Shooter Most writers have a background in Literature and would remember how Henry Wadsworth Longfellow shot his arrow into the air [might I say "aimlessly"] and it fell to earth he knew not where. Years later, the arrow was found in good shape protruding from an oak tree. The song he was singing that day, from start to finish, he found again in the heart of a friend. That gives you something to ponder for a few days as I'd like to place some food for thought and will post twice each week. Please feel free to comment, especially if you want more information about a certain type of writing. Add Comment | Julie Scott: Freelance Writer, Teacher, Mentor
Good writing is a fading art - except to good writers. I love what I do and I fill three roles as I do it: freelance writing, teacher and mentor. I feel strongly about the concept of "Paying It Forward" and when I hit the lottery, I will. Til then, my advice is free. [Grab it while I'm not using it!] ArchivesCategories |
